Two former top lightweight contenders will meet in a key welterweight clash in New York on Sunday 19 May. Rafael dos Anjos (28-11-0) will take on Kevin “The Motown Phenom” Lee in the main event of the UFC Rochestor card.

This will mark dos Anjos’ sixth consecutive fight at welterweight after making a long run in the lightweight division capturing a UFC championship. Looking to bounce back after his most recent loss in a five-round unanimous decision to Al Iaquinta, the powerful high-volume striker is heading into the bout looking to improve his positioning in the division.

Kevin Lee (17-4-0) is set to return to the octagon against dos Anjos, and to make his debut in a new weight division, welterweight. This bout will put a mainstay of the welterweight division against a brand new challenger, and Lee is hoping to kick start his campaign for the title with a victory,

Additional attention has been given to the fight due to the suggestions from Lee on what he perceives could be the best move for the UFC, in adding a brand new 165-pound division. UFC President Dana White has been seemingly against this, however that hasn’t stopped Lee in challenging dos Anjos to weigh in at 165-pounds in a show of support for the new division.
