The new year will kick off with this epic featherweight bout which will see the return of former champ, Max Holloway who will take on sixth-ranked contender, Calvin Kattar.
For Holloway this will be his first non-title fight in five years. During his championship days he successfully defended his title three times and broke UFC records. In his reign, he’s recorded the most wins (16), the most knockouts (8) and the most stoppage victories (10) in UFC featherweight history.
However, he also lost consecutive title fights to current Aussie division king, Alexander Volkanovski by split and unanimous decision. Currently ranked second in the division, this fight will prove if Holloway is still championship material.
For Calvin Kattar this fight will be his opportunity to climb the ranks and move from his sixth ranking in the division. The “Boston Finisher” has definitely lived up to his nickname. He recently bagged two consecutive fights - a unanimous decision over Dan Ige and a KO/TKO victory to Jeremy Stephens. Overall he’s finished off and cleaned up with four of six victories.
This contender showdown will no doubt be one to watch!
The undercard will see no. 12 ranked, Omari Akhmedov and Tom Breese in middleweight bout, while a welterweight matchup between Ramazan Emeev and David Zawada will test Emeev’s stamina - to date his won 8 of his 9 fights.
