Michael Chiesa and Neil Magny will go toe-to toe in this welterweight bout to claim their fourth consecutive win. So far, both fighters have bagged three straight wins from their recent matches - this deciding match will say it all.
Chiesa’s recent transition from the lightweight division to welterweight division in 2018 has proven successful. His first welterweight fight for the year (UFC 232) saw him quickly defeat Carlos Condit by submission in the second round. This was followed by another victory over Diego Sanchez, where he had won by unanimous decision. Similarly, he took down Rafael dos Anjos by unanimous decision during his last fight in January 2020.
The “Maverick” looks to climb up from his current #8 ranking within the division, but told MMA Junkie it’s not going to be easy.
“I’m not expecting to look pretty, beating Neil Magny — when you’ve got a guy as well-rounded as he is. He doesn’t really have any glaring weaknesses. He’s just a good all-around fighter. I’m just going to go in there and do whatever I need to do to get the job done. I’m going to be pursuing a finish as I always am, but if we got to go blood-and-guts for five rounds, so be it. I’m ready to do whatever I’ve got to (do to) get the job done.”
Will he get the job done?
On the other side, there’s Magny (aka “The Haitian Sensation”) who’s just as keen to win. This fighting sensation is a serious contender who, like Chiesa, has scored three straight victories, and all within the last year. His wins over Li Jingliang and Anthony Rocco Martin were by unanimous decisions. He continued the streak with another victory over former division champion, Robbie Lawler — also by unanimous decision. With this, Magny earned the second most wins in the welterweight division behind Georges St Pierre.
Can he do it again?
