Sydney is getting it’s very own Super Fight. Come the 16th of December, Bankwest Stadium in Parramatta will host a boxing master class with two headline fights sure to draw a crowd.
Australia’s boxing prodigy, Tim Tszyu, son of the infamous boxing champion, Kosta Tszyu, will continue his rise in the ranks, headlining his second stadium show of the year.
Tszyu is on a streak of epic proportions, with 16 wins from 16 fights, including a most recent TKO against Jeff Horn. With many suggesting this was the moment Tszyu emerged from his famous father’s shadow, he’s looking for more.
"When you know something you've just got to do it," Tszyu said.
"Everyone wakes up in the morning for a particular reason, some people decide to stay in bed, some people don't.
"This is why I get up, because I know that I can be the best and each day is the sacrifice of becoming that."
Tszyu will take on New Zealand’s Bowyn Morgan, who after 22 pro fights, has had just one defeat in his career.
Making a significant sacrifice in order to make it to the fight, Morgan will miss Christmas with his family in order to adhere to strict New Zealand COVID-19 quarantine measures.
In the co-main event, NRL legend Paul Gallen is back in the ring against Mark Hunt in a highly anticipated bout. Unbeaten in his boxing career to date, Gallen has cracked double digits in his professional resume.
Everyone wants to carry on about me or football players in general jumping in the boxing ring and saying they don't do enough for the sport," Gallen told Wide World of Sports.
"It will now be my 11th fight, so if people want to keep bagging me, they can keep bagging me for it. But I think I've done my job for Australian boxing."
Mark Hunt is a New Zealand mixed martial artist and former kickboxer, Hunt is no stranger to combat, fighting the likes of Wanderlei Silva, Fedor Amelianenko, Brock Lesnar, Stipe Miocic and Junior Dis Santos.
Hunt is no stranger to stirring up the tension prior to a bout, stating publicly he is confident Gallen won’t even get close to him come fight night.
“If it's anything like how he finished Barry Hall, I don't know how he's even going to get close, to be honest," Hunt said.
"I've seen what kind of storm he can bring, and it's not very much - especially when I was watching it live in Melbourne against Barry Hall."
