Charles Oliveira’s team got there wish, he’s set to headline the upcoming UFC Brasil card, taking on Kevin Lee.
On a six-fight winning streak, Oliveira has defeated notable names such as Clay Guida, Jim Miller and David Teymur in his past outings and will get a chance to take on a top-10 opponent. The only loss occured in December 2017, TKO’d by Paul Felder.
Kevin Lee returned to the victory list in highlight reel fashion, taking on and KO’ing fast rising prospect, Gregor Gillespie with a powerful head kick at UFC 244, when he returned to the lightweight category after a small stint at welterweight.
Added to the card, is Paige Vanzat, who will make her return to the women’s strawweight division against Amanda Ribas.
Vanzant was last seen in the Octagon early this year, when she submitted Rachael Ostovich in the second round and rebounded from a pair of defeats.
Vanzant was arguably one of the most popular female UFC stars of all time, even headlining an event in the past. She got off to a blazing start, going undefeated. However, the momentum would slowly dwindle over time, especially following her infamous Dancing With The Stars gig.
This is the first time Vanzant will be back in the Octagon after a full year off, many have questioned if she’s going to get back to her best.
Her opponent, Amanda Ribas, is a shining upcoming light in the UFC. Riding a three fight win streak, which included her previous bout where she scored a unanimous decision against Mackenzie Dern. June saw her make a successful promotional debut, taking the win by submission in the second round against Emily Whitmire.
This fight is still somewhat controversial. Ribas is a solid opponent, however she is not the opponent, Vanzent should be fighting. The person that should be in the ring with Vanzent, is Maycee Barber, who has publicly called out Vanzent from the day she earnt a UFC contract.
This fight is also rumoured to be Vanzant’s last under the UFC, once completed, Vanzant’s contract is up and she’ll be a free agent, and could potentially move to Bellator, where her husband is signed.
Rounding out the card is Johnny Walker up against Nikita Krylov in the Light Heavyweight category and Makhmud vs Antonio Carlos Junior.
