EVENT CANCELLED
The UFC is returning to Ohio, and it’s bringing with it a massive main event.
Following his monstrous fifth-round knockout win over Alistair Overeem, new Heavyweight contender Jairzinho Rozenstruik immediately named his next target; Francis Ngannou. That’s not a callout many men in the heavyweight category are making right now, as Ngannou is riding a three fight win made up what seems like effortless knockout victories.
Despite the overwhelming success, Ngannou has been anxiously awaiting his chance to get back into action after his anticipated title shot faded away with the announcement that the UFC was plotting a trilogy between Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier in 2020.
Rather than sitting on the sidelines, waiting patiently, Ngannou asked to be booked for a different fight as soon as possible, and now it appears he’ll be back in the thick of it, come March. This comes after the knockout artists has won three straight fights including victories over former champs, Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos.
Rozenstruik, considered the breakout star in 2019, is still sitting on a perfect streak for his career to date, with a 10-0 record overall including four knockouts while fighting under the UFC franchise. Recently, Rozenstruik finished former heavyweight title contender Alistair Overeem with just four seconds remaining in the final round for his first UFC main event.
Rounding out the undercard is Cody Garbrandt, who will fight in front of his home crowd against Raphael Assuncao. This is the first time Garbrandt will fight in Ohio for the first time since 2014, in his last bout before he was signed by the UFC.
The former champion is on somewhat of a comeback, after falling on harder times in his career with three straight losses, all by knockout including two fights with former teammate T.J. Dillashaw, as well as a setback against Pedro Munhoz in his last outing. A win would get him back on the right track, while Assuncao is also looking to get back in the winning column after two back-to-back losses.
Also on the card is Khalil Rountree Jr facing Sam Alvey, Tecia Torres taking on Mizuki Inoue and in the men’s bantamweight bout Louis Smolka is up against Davey Grant.
Main Card showing live from 10am VIC, NSW, TAS | 9:30am SA | 9am QLD | 8:30am NT | 7am WA (undercard will show earlier).
