It’s on again!
This fight was originally scheduled for Aug 1, but at the time, Irene Aldana tested positive to COVID-19, and was therefore cancelled.
"We are going through a very complicated world situation, and my country is no exception: COVID-19," Aldana said in an Instagram post. "Despite the fact that we have made camp in total isolation and with all health measures recommended by the authorities, unfortunately, I had some symptoms, and the test came back positive."
Aldana however is now in better shape, having since recovered from the virus, and is ready to take on former champion, Holly Holm.
“The Preacher’s Daughter”’s (Holm) last fight at UFC 246 with Raquel Pennington saw her take victory. It was a 2015 rematch for the pair, and no doubt a sweeter win for Holm. However Holm has been between victories and losses in her six last outings at the octagon (13-5), with three of the six fights being opportunities to gain the title belt. She has not won consecutive fights since smashing Ronda Rousey roughly five years back, and will look to regain momentum and focus to get to the top.
Meanwhile, Aldana is stronger than ever, having won five of six of her last fights. Her recent bout with Ketlen Vieira (12-5) at UFC 245 was proof of that, defeating her by knockout. Her victory over Vanessa Melo also boosted her confidence and odds as title champion. Aldana is currently ranked sixth and looks to move closer to gain the title.
No location has been determined for the fight, but could likely be at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.
