Bantamweight contenders Rob Font and Cody Garbrandt will throw hands this May in a promising showdown. Former champion, Garbrandt is looking to add a win to his scorecard after his most recent win in UFC 250. Meanwhile No. 3 contender, Font will be fighting to climb the ranks and get closer to a title shot.
Garbrandt last fought against Raphael Assuncao in 2019 who he defeated via KO/TKO. His outstanding performance was nominated for “Knockout of the Year”. Previously to this fight however he suffered a three-fight losing skid, two of which were back-to-back losses to T.J. Dillashaw by KO/TKO. Not to be overlooked, he held a serious six-fight win streak before his drought of losses. His wins saw him defeat opponents such as Marcus Brimage, Augusto Mendes, Takeya Mizugaki and Dominick Cruz.
Can he bag this fight and add it to his wins?
Meanwhile Font will enter the Octagon on a three-fight winning streak. His recent fights have seen him defeat Ricky Simon by unanimous decision, and an impressive Round 1 TKO to Marlon Moraes last December. Overall he’s seen three losses and staggered wins.
When asked about his fight with Garbrandt, Font commented to My MMA News that he’s excited and ready.
“It’s going to be a fast-paced first two minutes, (let’s see) who can survive that first two minutes and we’ll see how it plays out.
“If I can keep him at range, pick him apart, do my thing, I can definitely find the knockout eventually. The guy is tough, ex-champ. He’s been there, done that. It’s exciting.”
Can Font continue his fiery winning streak?
Joining the fight will be Felicia Spencer and Danyelle Wolf in the undercard for the Women’s Featherweight Bout.
