Jon Jones will face the undefeated Dominick Reyes in February for his next title defence. The bout will headline UFC 246, in Houston, Dana White confirmed with ESPN.

Reyes is a strong up and comer in the category, in October 2019, he secured a first-round knockout over former middleweight champion and light heavyweight debutant Chris Weidman. He’s beaten the likes of Jared Cannonier, Ovince Saint Preux and Volkan Oezdemir since signing for the UFC in 2017. The 29-year-old stated it would be an ‘honour’ to fight Jones, taking on the current champion would be the peak of his career.

‘Bones’ regained his belt from Daniel Cormier in 2017, a fight now deemed a no-contest after Jones failed a drug test after the gith, Jones has since gone on to beat Alexander Gustafsson, Anthony Smith and Santos.

Sitting on top of the UFC’s pound for pound rankings sports a 22-1 record with one no content, he only loss was via disqualification for illegal downward elbows against Matt Hamill in 2009.

Reyes remains the underdog in this fight, with many experts predicting Jones will finish him early on.

‘I think he wants to make a statement that no other light heavyweight is on his level, and I think he wants to shut up all the doubters who have been speaking up a little more this year.”

Not the only title on the line, Valentina Shevchenko will defend her women’s flyweight belt against challenger Katlyn Chookagian.
