Aussie champion, Tim Tszyu finally has the name, place and date confirmed for his highly anticipated US debut. He’s been waiting for years to have the opportunity to prove himself of the big stage, and finally, the time has come.
After a rapid fire lesson in the chaos of top-level international boxing with rescheduled dates after rescheduled dates, finally locking in a bout with Terrell Gausha. The fight represents much more for Tszyu than just the first foray into America.
It’s a new beginning, another chance to prove his more than his last name, even with his superstar father standing in his corner. It’s a challenge he is embracing and with it a new side emerged - a more ‘menacing’ Tszyu, as Main Event’s Ben Damon put it.
Speaking to Damon on The Main Event Boxing podcast, Tszyu described his trip over to the States as a “new chapter” and not just because it could lead to a world title shot.
“I’m enjoying the whole process. It feels like a new chapter, a new book is being written because I am coming here unknown,” he said.
“Everyone knew about everything in Australia. It is good to be out of my comfort zone.”
It is kind of fitting, as brother Nikita is in the process of doing the same, Tim is back where he started, with another point to prove.
“It starts all over again,” he said.
“It gives me a burning desire to step away from the shadow because I feel like I stepped away from the shadow here in Australia but this is a whole new game. People still don’t know me here. This is why I’m re-writing the new chapter.”

“He’s a smart boxer, fast, got quick hands and good combinations,” Tszyu said.
“He’s very good at what he does.”
But as for what kind of person Gausha is, Tszyu “couldn’t care less”.
“You are in a menacing frame of mind, this is soul-taker stuff,” Damon laughed, asking: “Is that what we should expect from now until the start of the fight?”
“This is chilled, man... I’m nice and relaxed,” Tszyu added.
“I love this whole experience. It’s been a crazy few weeks. There are new reporters, new accents and new people. Everyone wants to know everything.
“There are new questions asked. Everything is new. That is why I am calling it the next chapter. Everything is completely new. A new start to my boxing journey.
“It’s been a big fight in the making. It’s been a long process. I’m quite excited for this opportunity.”
