After a game of musical chairs in the week leading to this fight, it’s finally been confirmed that a bout will still be on, albeit with a different headline fight. Top 10 contenders, Marina Rodriguez and Michelle Waterson will go head-to-head in Las Vegas despite the short notice. Originally the fight was scheduled for Sandhagen and Dillashaw, however Dillashaw withdrew due to an eye injury.
Both fighters typically compete in the strawweight division, but for this matchup they will jump up and fight in the flyweight division due to the fight’s short notice. Can they handle it?
No.6 contender Rodriguez is entering the match on a high, and looks to capitalise on her latest and most significant win to Amanda Ribas. She took out the hottly touted #11 fighter by second round TKO during UFC 257. Prior, she’s maintained a strong fighting record only losing once during her six UFC appearances. The loss was to strawweight champion Carla Esparza in a split decision. Can she take out Waterson too?
Meanwhile #10 contender Waterson is also chasing her second win after defeating Angela Hill last September. Her win was recognised as a “Fight of the Night” performance, and halted her two-fight losing streak. She currently holds four wins of six appearances, where she lost to Carla Esparza and former UFC champion, Joanna Jedrzejczyk. Can she bump up her rankings and defeat Rodriguez?
In the co-main event #15 Donald Cerrone takes on Alex Morono in a welterweight bout. Closely ranked contenders Neil Magny (#9) and Geoff Neal (#10) will also compete in a welterweight clash worth watching.
