The former UFC middleweight champion, Chris Weidman, will make his light heavyweight debut come October as he faces unbeaten contender, Dominick Reyes in the five round main event of UFC Fight Night.
As the UFC heads to Boston, Weidman will return to the Octagon, healthy and eager to begin his quest for a second divisional title this fall. Standing in his way is fourth ranked light heavyweight in the world in Reyes, who’s perfect record includes victories over Jared Cannonier, Ovince Saint Preux and Volkan Oezdemir.
Awaiting for Reyes should he win this bout, a potential championship fight against Jon Jones. Although the focus remains on his October match up, with Reyes making a controversial statement on the upcoming fight.
“I’m not the guys you want to come up and fight your first fight. That’s just it. I’m not the guy. I don’t know whether to be honoured that I got him or disrespected. So I’m just pissed. That’s just how I feel I’m pissed.”
UFC Boston will also feature Zabit and Calvin Kattar in the men’s featherweight category while Maycee Barber and Gillian Robertson go head to head in the women’s flyweight.
