This Fight Night has finally been set for this Sunday! Originally this lightweight bout was scheduled to headline Islam Makhachev and Rafael Dos Anjos, however Makhachev pulled out at the last minute due to a staph infection. Prior to this, Makhachev and Dos Anjos were set to fight, but it was rescheduled as Dos Anjos tested positive to CO-VID19.
With a vacant headline spot available, Paul Felder (17-5) stepped in with just a few days notice. The “Irish Dragon” (Felder) has not fought since Dan Hooker in February this year, which saw him endure a highly contested split loss decision. Prior to this fight, he won two consecutive fights to Edson Barboza and James Vick. He’s currently ranked seventh in his division, but has spoken of retirement. Will this fight make him reconsider his UFC career?
Meanwhile former UFC champion Dos Anjos, will look to find momentum to work his way up, having not fought in the Octagon since 2016 where he lost to Tony Fergusson. Formerly, his championship reign was from 2015 -2016.
Dos Anjos’ fight with Felder will mark his return to the lightweight division, after four rough losses (of five fights) in the welterweight class. He did however win to Kevin Lee. Prior, he held a 3-0 strike rate when entering the welterweight class. Will he work his way back to title champion?
