After two rescheduled fights, Derek Brunson and Edmen Shahbazyan will finally get their shot.
After being announced for March 7, the coronavirus pandemic pushed the bout to April 11, however this was then moved with no date in sight. However due to the original bout of Holly Holm and Irene Aldana being called off, the two men will get their shot.
Derek Brunson will be looking to establish himself in the middleweight division with a win. A veteran of the UFC since 2012, Brunson has taken on some of the biggest names in the middleweight division, such as Anderson Silva, Israel Adesanya, Robert Whittaker, Lyoto Machida and others.
Brunson is on a two fight win streak after knocking off Elias Theodorou and Ian Heinisch, it’ll be his first since August 2019. He’ll be looking to take on Edmen Shahbazyan, who has established himself as a contender in the middleweight division.
Shahbazyan tore through the local circuit with six straight finishes before getting his ultimate opportunity to fight on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2018. Since then, Shahbazyan has notched four victories in the promotion, and has been ranked third in ESPN’s top 25 MMA fighters under the age of 25.
Whoever takes the victory will be well on their way to challenge the current champ, Adesanya. Rounding out the card, Joanne Calderwood will take on Jennifer Maia in the women’s flyweight bout and Vincente Luque will face off against Randy Brown.
