The long awaited trilogy of the Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier is coming to fruition, taking place Sunday 16 August in Las Vegas.
The highly anticipated title fight has been a year in the making, and will see these two heavyweight champions settle the score once and all.
Daniel Cormier is a legend of the sport, being the second fighter in UFC history to hold two different weight division titles, and the first fighter in UFC history to defend both those titles in different categories.
He rose as champion of the heavyweight category when he faced Stipe Miocic for the first time for the championship on July 7 in 2018. Winning the fight via knockout, he officially became a record holder with the light heavyweight belt already under his arm.
Successfully defending his heavyweight belt against Derrick Lewis, Cormier voluntarily relinquished the light heavyweight title, whi his focus solely on defending the heavyweight title, stating ‘I’d rather walk away this way, than have the history books say I was stripped.”
Stipe Miocic has been touted as one of the greatest heavyweight fighters of all time. Holding the UFC record for most consecutive title defenses, after inevitably losing the belt to Cormier in 2018, Miocic then took a full year off with 12 months spent training and working back to his championship form, stepping back into the ring for the first time in August 2019.
Exacting his revenge against Cormier, Miocic reclaimed his heavyweight title and bragging rights. Now, nearly a year later, the two will meet again.
It’s been a year since they last met, but now, for the last time, Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic will decide who the true heavyweight champion is. With it widely reported, this will be the last time Cormier will step into the Octagon.
A clash of the titans, and what will go down as one of the greatest battle stories of all time. Watch the third and final fight of Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier on Sunday 16 August.
