Canelo vs Kovalev

Main Card showing live from 12pm AEDT | 11:30am SA | 11am QLD | 10:30am NT | 9am WA (undercard will show earlier).

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez moves up two weight divisions to try and win his eighth world title against light heavyweight king Sergey Kovalev in one of the biggest fights of 2019.

In what could be the boldest move in boxing this year, WBA and WBC champion Alvarez will put his plans to unify the middleweight division on hold. Instead, he’ll put his power to the test against Kovalev, fighting above the 72kg weight limit for just the third time in his career.

Having won multiple world titles at super welterweight and middleweight, he goes for gold in a third weight class against the aging by still dangerous Russian.

Years ago, Kovalev was up there among the best pound-for-pound fighters on the planet, admittedly his best days are behind him, however he’s shown he’s more than capable of fending off the young hopefuls who are seeking to end his career sooner rather than later.

Canelo is only concerned with cementing his name into the history books.

“We believe we have the capabilities to win this title. You have to take risks to make history and that is what I am doing.

Being a champion in three divisions is a lot for me and my story - but we want more.”

Watch Canelo and Kovalev battle it out in the ring for the WBO Light Heavyweight title, Sunday 3 November, live at your local.
