IBF PAN PACIFIC SUPER WELTERWEIGHT TITLE
Tim Tszyu is set for the biggest test of his young career, as he prepares to headline a pay-per-view card for the second time in the space of three months.
Tszyu will fight fellow Aussie, Dwight Ritchie on Wednesday 14 August at the ICC in Sydney, as announced earlier last month. With the WBO Global and IBF Pan Pacific Super Welterweight belts on the line, not to mention a potential top-five ranking, this is a huge opportunity for both fighters.
The son of Kostya Tszyu, the 24 year old is fresh off a successful victory over Joel Camilleri after a unanimous decision saw him claim the Australian Super Welterweight belt, which much to doubters dismay, puts him line for a shot at the top.
Dwight Ritchie stands in his way. The number one ranked Australian super welterweight, Ritchie is Tszyu’s toughest opponent yet. The 27-year old from Victoria is 19-1-0 and also holds a victory over Camilleri.
Many Australian boxing fans were disappointed, after Tszyu called out Jeff Horn, the biggest name in Australian boxing, however that highly anticipated bout will likely come after August, with Horn also in the ring taking on Zerafa.
Tszyu landed back in Australian in June, haqving spent time in the Philippines as a sparring partner for none other than Manny Pacquiao ahead of the 40-year-old legends showdown with Keith Thurman.
Two tough Australian opponents, both looking for their next step up the rank in the boxing statistics. Who will come out on top? Will the prodigy prove to continue his successful run, just as Dad did?
On the undercard, AFLW star and professional boxer, Tayla Harris (4-0-1) will take on Renee Gartner, while Renold Quinlan will take on Mateo Tapia.
