Teofimo Lopez vs George Kambosos Jr

  • Sports Bar Near You (map)

Sydney’s very own George Kambosis Jr will be back in the ring in August, when he goes up against Teofimo Lopez for the IBF, WBO, WBA and The Ring lightweight world titles.

Originally scheduled for June 5, the bout will now take place on the 15th of August in Miami, at LoanDepot Park after the easing of crowd restrictions in early June.

Kambosos travelled to the US in March for promotional duties ahead of the biggest fight of his career, and has been training in Fort Lauderdale for the past month.

“I am so focused and ready to bring all the belts back home to Australia.” Kambosos told Sporting News recently.

"I’ve been fighting in the major leagues around the world where the real fights happen, but now headlining in a Major League stadium is surreal.

"This is the big time, this is real boxing, I will be Undisputed Champion of the World."

The Australian native, Kambosos sitting at 19-0-0 has been on a six fight winning streak across the US, Asia and the UL, but he’ll have his work cut out for him, coming up against the in-form Teofimo Lopez.

Lopez sitting on 16-0-0 is the current holder of the IBF, WBA, WBO and Ring Magazine lightweight world titles after beating legendary Vasiliy Lomachenko last year.

“I’m open to the whole market,” Lopez told the DAZN Boxing Show. “When I bet on myself, I double down. We’re all talking about stocks over here, I invest in myself. If you want to invest in Teofimo, now is the best time.

“I speak well, I don't get into trouble. I stay focused on everything. I’m a walking brand and advertisement for everyone.

“I’ve always been a world champion, I’m a champion in life. I think we all are in our own unique way.

“The only thing to stop me getting big-headed is to humble me. At 23, I became undisputed at the lightweight division, what else is there to do?

“That’s what it’s all about. I want more, when there’s success there’s no such thing as too much of it. At 23, there’s so much more I could do and I’m focused.”

With everything on the line for Lopez, and with Kambosos going in with nothing to lose, what will be the outcome as these two athletes in their prime go toe-to-toe in the ring.
